16. Hey there good lookin’: we went to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens on Friday. Although a lot of the plants were dead dormant right now, the roses were in full bloom. Don’t those parents of mine look nice amidst the blooms?

17. Sweater show offs: my mom and I are each sporting our Girl Friday sweaters. (Thanks to my dad for taking this photo even though we were running late for the airport. Can’t you just smell the urgency?) Read more about Girl Friday here and get the pattern for yourself here.

18. True dat: on Sunday, we headed to Charlottesville in hopes of picking apples at Carter’s orchard. Apparently every other person who lives in the mid-Atlantic had the same idea though because once we were a few miles away, there was already a long line of traffic. After some deep deliberation, we decided to skip apples and spend the afternoon in downtown Charlottesville instead. We did a little shopping—read all about my screaming deals at Urban Outfitters here and here—and walked along the outdoor mall, where I saw this nice sentiment.

19. Stitchin’ and snackin’: making and doing can often get a little messy, especially when you combine it with snacking. On Sunday night, I set my work-in-progress knit tunic aside to work on my Anthro Scarflet only to realize later that I had been sitting on the tunic and a bowl of M&Ms the whole time. Oops! (I wish I could say this was the first time this has happened.) Luckily, the M&Ms weren’t too melted, so I was able to pluck them off and enjoy them as a midnight snack.

I really wish I could have been there! I can only hope some of ravely patterns tagged “too advanced for my limited knit/crochet skills” that I passed on to my endlessly talented mother made it in this crafting frenzy! And that they will be wrapped up in a shirt sleeve under the Christmas tree :-)

Yes Jess! Loving your site!! I started girl friday last year, got the back done, only to find a fisherman sweater in the same color at the Salvation for $4.99 on half price day! So Girl friday sat….But ya I keep coming back to it for the off white sweater I’m longing for and I’ll have to stay away from my favorite boutique till finished.
Now, your mom mentioned that you figure how to do it on circular needles? would love tips if so. She told me this after I had the back half done. The pattern was a stretch for me to start cause I’m a TV knitter and had to count and recount and tear out and the pattern doesn’t really correspond to the code. (open squares are knit but seems that they really are supposed to be purl?? Help me out here!) Just finished a simple knit and purl sweater. It’s a little big and not happy with my shoulder seams. My stitches are still irregular but sis assures me they will even out in a few years!
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
    big hug and xxxxxx
