I have this friend, McCall. I blog about her at least once a week. Like here, here and here.
It’s pretty much because she’s awesome. A bridesmaid in my wedding. A constant source of stability and encouragement. A soul mate friend.
We met during volleyball when I was a junior in college and she was a freshman. She couldn’t figure out why I, as the super cool junior I was, would want to hang out with an underclassman.
I knew something she hadn’t realized yet. She was tall and strong and could wipe my entire face off with a volleyball. Plus, she was one of those girls that wasn’t a typical high school flake. She was grounded. And thoughtful. And she loved to run through sprinklers with me at night.
In college, we were roommates. I’m not our little apartment on 30th Street in Boulder will ever recover. That place usually looked like it had just been raided by the DEA. We tried to learn to long board together, but instead just ended up with matching scars.
Then we went to Europe. She spent a month watching me pee in inappropriate places around Europe. (There’s a serious lack of bathrooms at those old churches and I have a very small bladder.)
After that, McCall married my friend, Danny. Don’t you just love it when you approve of a friend’s new guy from the very first date?
Now McCall and Danny live in Providence. We send each other pen pal notes up and down the East coast and try to see each other as often as possible. (And play dress-up in Anthropologie when we do.)
Well, today is one of those glorious “Call and Jess” days where we get to talk about life while we hot glue whatever we can get our hands on. McCall is visiting for the next 5.5 days. AMAZING. Really, there are very few things better than a marathon of crafting and nacho-eating with McCall.
I’ll post pics of the adventures soon. In the meantime, we must get off to adventuring…

Aww! Have so so much fun! Best friends are life’s cake, and crafting parties are the frosting. Enjoy!
Haha–well put, Frankie.
