Hi there. I’m Jess.  Make and Do Girl is the nickname my momma coined for me when I was about four-years-old. Although really, she is the master of make and do. There’s not a crafty code she hasn’t cracked, so I was lucky enough to grow up thinking anything could be made with a little ingenuity and some hot glue.

I was in kindergarden when I told my mom I wanted to make my first quilt. She could have said, no Jess, you might poke your little five-year-old eye out with that needle, now go outside and play with a stick. But instead, she rummaged up a book of wallpaper samples, tore out the attached fabric swatches and said go to town, kid.

I sewed those little scraps together every night before dinner and haven’t really stopped making and doing since. I’m lucky enough to spend my days at an advertising agency, doing stuff most people would generally call “creative.” But whether you work in an accounting office or a grocery store, I believe we all have a little Maker and Doer inside of us. My hope with MakeAndDoGirl.com is that it’s a place where we’ll each be inspired to spread our creative wings.

I love to hear about your creative successes, challenges and ideas (or really anything else you want to tell me—I’m a talker.) Feel free to comment or drop me a note at jessica coppom (at) gmail (dot) com. I look forward to making and doing with you!

Hi AN-T! Thanks for stopping by! I’m so glad you’re knitting like crazy. Me too! Do you use Ravelry.com? It’s THE BEST source for finding patterns, a lot of which are free. One pattern my mom and I both knit from Fisherman’s wool is this girl friday sweater. I can email you the pattern if you’d like. Another option, although it’s not a sweater, is this awesome capelet I knit a while ago. I love it and it’s pretty quick to knit. Let me know what you decide! Happy New Year! xoxo

Hello! Just came across your blog via pinterest! Not to sound too stalkerish, but I noticed you are also living in Richmond! So neat!! Love looking through all of your posts; they’re great!

      Hey Laura,
Thanks for stopping by! Funny thing is that we just recently moved to Colorado. Guess I need to update things! I sure loved living in Richmond though. Maybe you could swing by Lamplighter and have a decaf iced americano for me?

Hi there! I’ve been following you on Pinterest for a while now, but am just now visiting your site in depth for the first time. I love that the Make & Do girl is a nickname from your mom, and I’m truly inspired by your outlook on creativity. I am trying to make and do more, and procrastinate less. I just started a new blog in the hopes that it will help me in that endeavor. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks so much for the sweet comment, Shannon. I just popped over to your blog. I loved the letter to yourself as an old lady. I used to live in a studio apt in Nob Hill too! I loved it, except for carrying my groceries home! Hope you are able to find lots of projects to fill up your tiny space!
